LASBO BUSINESS MEETING
June 17, 2009
Lafayette, LA
The LASBO Board meeting was called to order by Tami Austin. Attending the meeting were members: Tami Austin, Frank Rougeau, Elizabeth Domite, Deborah Finlay, Bobbie McDonald, Juanita Duke, LaFon Ortis, Rebecca Breaux, Matthew Dugas, Stephen Flanders, Deloris Walker, Lesia Casanovas, Mary Bonnette, and Bill Hebert. Absent was board member Gregory Page. Also attending were Billie Tripp and Terry Tripp.
On motion by Lesia Casanovas and a second by Bill Hebert, the minutes from board meetings held on March 17, 2009, and March 19, 2009, were approved.
Bobbie McDonald presented a financial report and the Annual 2009-10 Budget. On motion by Matthew Dugas and a second by Juanita Duke, the Annual 2009-10 Budget was approved.
Tami Austin presented new officers and members with a LASBO handbook.
Bill Hebert, SASBO Director, presented a report on SASBO.
Discussions were held relative to legislative issues affecting school systems including at-risk reporting, property taxes, and sales tax on school lunches.
No committee reports were given at this time.
The LASBO 44th Annual Conference in Bossier City, LA was reviewed and closed out.
The LASBO 45th Annual Conference in Lake Charles, LA was discussed.
Discussions were held concerning progress being made with the mentoring program. Bill Hebert commented on methods used by other states.
On motion by Frank Rougeau and a second by Bobbie McDonald, Conference Central 2009-2010 Contract was approved. The vote was unanimous.
Discussions were held relative to appointing a Department of Education Liason for LASBO and for establishing guidelines for the responsibilities of that position.
Discussions were held relative to planning for the LASBO Fall Conference in Marksville on
November 17, 2009. Tentative topics include Basic Accounting for Schools, Grants Management and Timelines, Purchasing Round-Table, Louisiana Department of Education Reporting, etc., Employment Issues with Jon Guice, and IRS Issues with Claire Bullock. The Board will meet on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in Marksville, just prior to the Fall Conference.
Tami Austin opened discussion on SASBO Leadership Summit. The Summit will be held January 15-16, 2010, in Little Rock, AR. Frank Rougeau and Elizabeth Domite are eligible to attend as LASBO’s representatives.
Tami Austin, President, has permission to attend either the ASBO International Conference in Chicago, IL, on October 23-26, 2009, or the SASBO Annual Conference in Little Rock, AR, on April 18-21, 2010.
On motion by Lesia Casanovas and a second by Matthew Dugas, the Vice-President of LASBO will be allowed to attend the SASBO Annual Conference, and the President-Elect will be allowed to attend the ASBO International Conference effective January 1, 2010. The vote was unanimous.
The next business meeting will be held on September 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Landry’s Restaurant in Henderson, LA. Future business meetings will be as follows: November 16, 2009, at the Paragon in Marksville before the Fall Conference; and on January 22, 2010, at the L’Auberge Du Lac Hotel in Lake Charles for a walk-through before the Spring Conference.
Tami Austin challenged board members to hold a regional meeting before the September 9th Board of Directors meeting. Ms. Austin asked for any closing comments.
On motion made by Matthew Dugas and seconded by Stephen Flanders, the meeting was adjourned.
